“Balance is the key to everything. What we do, say, eat, think, feel, they all require awareness, and through this awareness, we can grow.” Koi Fresco
Balance. One of the most important universal qualities. But it can be really hard to have balance in life. You’re supposed to drink enough water, meditate, work, thrive financially, be social, spend time with your family, exercise, eat nutritiously, take time for yourself…the list goes on and on and on. And honestly? It’s exhausting.
What balanced living really means to us is taking time for all the aspects of your life. We label those as 5 areas of health & wellness; physical, nutritional, mental/emotional, financial, intellectual.
This month we have been encouraging others to take a step in the right direction with their health in all of these different areas, every single day, for 30 days.
We wanted to give you a few tips on how to have balance in your life, and in your health.
2. Don’t spread yourself too thin. This last year, the World Health Organization added “burnout” as an official medical disorder. Burnout is REAL. Too many of us are trying to do too much at once. We’re burning both ends of the candle and eventually, something has to give. Along with prioritizing your own health, maybe take some time to write down and prioritize everything in your life that is taking up time, energy, and space. Set time for each of these activities and be sure not to over schedule and overwhelm yourself. Set boundaries for your own time and be sure not to let things take over when they do not deserve space in your life.
3. Make sure you are doing something for yourself, every day, in each area of health. As we talked about previously, it’s important to focus on the big picture of health, and not just one aspect. We see the most important tend to be physical, nutritional, mental/emotional, financial, intellectual. Often, we will prioritize one of these over the other, which can throw our life out of balance. Take time to meditate, be creative, go for walks, or eat yummy nutritious foods. This does not have to feel overwhelming but instead can be liberating and refreshing. Making space for other parts of your health that have long been neglected can rejuvenate you and appreciate yourself more.
5. Create and achieve goals. Having goals in all areas of our health can have amazing benefits. Setting goals gives you the motivation to work towards something, helps you organize your time, and…you guessed it, create balance in your life! Be sure to set goals for your physical, nutritional, mental/emotional, financial, and intellectual health.
An example of these could be;
