Broiled Grapefruit

May 4, 2015

Alright people, lets talk snacks: Grapefruit. When they’re in season I eat one every single day. I have a grapefruit spoon that I swear by so that I don’t miss out on any of the fruit and then I squeeze the remaining juice into a glass and savor every drop. It’s like gold to me. When I can’t get it fresh I put my DoTerra grapefruit oil drops in my water. It’s amazing. I started using grapefruit oil when I was battling severe depression because it can help reduce stress and depression and elevate your mood. It’s one of the many natural things that I use to stay happy and healthy.

Eating half of a grapefruit per day will meet 64% of your vitamin C needs, 28% of vitamin A, 2% of calcium and 2% of magnesium. It’s great for the immune system and boosts your metabolism.

However, it is slightly bitter and some people dislike it. So I spiced things up a little bit so that you can enjoy a sweet treat that you wont regret and reap the benefits of this amazing fruit. Below is a super easy recipe for broiled grapefruit with honey, bananas, and cinnamon.

Turn your broiler on high
Cut your grapefruit in half and then cut the small sections of your grapefruit w/a knife or grapefruit spoon so it’s easy to scoop out later.
Drizzle some honey on top of it
Place it in the oven and broil it until it gets a nice caramelized look to it (the edges may get a bit brown, that’s okay) *mine usually take about 5 minutes, watch it carefully.
Take it out of the oven and place fresh sliced up banana on it
Sprinkle the top with a pinch of cinnamon and enjoy!

It’s a gorgeous little snack. Throw this in with a nice brunch and your guests will adore you. Play with this recipe and have fun with it. You can swap the banana for anything. Strawberries and kiwis are also great options. Let me know what you think. Cheers!
