Can Minerals Help With Anxiety? I Put One to the Test

March 6, 2019

Not to add to your anxiety and stress, but chronic stress and anxiety has been shown to play a significant role in the development of disease. Just a major reason to do what you can to nip it before it takes over your life.

If you are like me you suffer from some kind of anxiety. It’s troubling to know that anxiety is one of the most common disorders in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults—18.1% of the population—every year. Some days my anxiety is worse than others and when it’s full blown, it’s horrible so I’m always on the lookout for good anxiety cures. I am not a big fan of prescription meds so I tend to search for natural alternatives. I recently read that experts believe that minerals may help ease and calm anxious feelings and symptoms. When I heard this I was pretty excited because friend had recently suggested a magnesium supplement.

So I decided to experiment with magnesium myself and as it turned out, not only did I feel some pretty unexpected physical effects from my experiment, but it made me realize just how much my anxiety is messing with my life, sleep and work.

This is the product I put to the test. Natural Vitality, Natural Calm

You can find it on Amazon, Walmart and WholeFoods. It comes in few different flavors. Raspberry Lemon is my fav. I put it in my greens drink in the evenings.

How does it work? This is what the makers of this product say about it…

“When we are under stress, our cells—which in their resting state contain magnesium—go through a change. Calcium, normally outside the cells, enters the cells to create an action state. Nerve cells become excited and muscles tense. When the stress has passed, magnesium then pushes the calcium back out of the cells and everything relaxes. However, when there’s not enough magnesium, calcium remains in the cells, prolonging stress and creating magnesium-deficiency symptoms. You experience this as feeling stressed. Cellular magnesium deficiency can also express itself as fatigue and low energy; inability to sleep; muscle tension, spasms and cramps; anxiousness and nervousness; headaches; constipation and abnormal heart rhythms.”

This is basically my new secret weapon- I love it. I did some of my own research and this is what I found. Magnesium citrate easily absorbed into the body resulting in quicker and more obvious relief. Magnesium is also a natural muscle relaxer, which immensely helps with anxiety. It’s a nervous system relaxant and mineral that assists with fear, irritability, and restlessness. We hold on to so much tension within our muscles, and this is a super-healthy and easy way to create calmness. Magnesium has been shown to stabilize the mood and promote feelings of calm and well-being.

I’ll give this a shot! I sometimes find myself in a vicious circle of recognizing how stressed I feel, then I start to worry about the toll the stress takes and then I can’t shut my mind off. Thanks!
