Don’t hate me when I say this, but I’m a morning person. I LOVE the quiet moments before anyone else is up. It’s my time to get myself prepared and ready for the day. I do my best thinking, studying and self-care in the early morning hours. I’ve noticed that the days that I make the most of the morning hours, feel more productive and less stressful.
For the record I wasn’t always a morning person.. it took some training and habit building until I found myself happy when the alarm went off. I’m nowhere close to perfect at keeping a morning routine, but when I do, I definitely have a better day.
These are the factors that make or break it for me:
Get up before anyone else in your house is awake- It’s the most peaceful time of the day. I am definitely a nicer person when I take some “me” time before the chaos of the morning routine begins.
Lemon Water- This can give you an energy boost, help promote good digestion and clear skin, and flush the body of waste that accumulated overnight. This water usually gives me a boost of energy and makes me less likely to want to head back to bed.
Read or Listen to an Uplifting Message- Whether it’s a motivational speech, an uplifting talk or encouraging words. It’s amazing what inspiring words can do for you.
Move- I don’t have time to do my workouts in the morning, but I do have a few minutes to move, twist and stretch. There are so many benefits to regular movement, and getting your blood flowing first thing helps you have more energy to keep you going throughout the day.
Make a Priority List- I always write my top three tasks for the day. These are my largest priorities. I follow that list with all the other stuff that needs to get done, but if it doesn’t the world will still turn. No doubt about it- writing a list down really helps them get them done and feel organized.
Nourish the Body- I’m not a huge breakfast person, but I do make sure I give myself a little nutritional boost. I drink a ‘greens drink’ each morning. I’ve talked about this before, and I swear by it. It’s filled with micronutrients and helps with inflammation, digestion, skin etc. It’s like a shot of all the best veggies and greens around. My favorite is Mlis Essential Greens. (I’ll throw the link below the post so you can check it out)
Remember, action breeds motivation, not the other way around.
So how do we apply this? One step at a time! One small change at a time. Don’t try to change your entire life, diet, lifestyle, and schedule completely overnight. That will just overwhelm you and it won’t last.
Decide on the first step and start there. Drink lemon water, wake up a little earlier, make a priority list. Just make a small change and focus on that. Once you feel like you have a handle on that done that, make another small change or step. Pretty soon you’ll see all the small steps have made a huge difference.
