How To Relax Right Now

According to the American Psychological Association more than half of working adults-and 47 percent of all Americans say they are concerned with the amount of stress in their lives. The research also found that people experiencing stress are more likely to report hypertension, anxiety, depression and obesity.

Essentially, stress is getting dangerous. It’s more important than ever to find ways to manage stress and reach relaxation. Try some of these techniques the next time you feel the cortisol* levels rising.

Meditation: This is one of the most effective ways to handle and manage stress. When you notice yourself feeling agitated take 2-3 minutes to close your eyes and focus on your breath. This will give your brain (particularly the hippocampus) time to digest information so you can return with clarity.

Weigh it out: Ask yourself the question, “Will this matter in 10 years?” 99% of the time it won’t. Stress usually comes from your thoughts about the situation and not from the situation itself. Asking yourself this question will bring you back to the bigger picture.

Or you can do nothing. Unfortunately this isn’t the most effective way to combat stress. It is also the most common when individuals are faced with adverse situations. Time to rise up and take action over the stressors in your life.
