Hydration Hacks: How to Stay Hydrated Throughout the Day

Thirsty? Do you drink enough water? Did you know you should be drinking 1/2 your body weight in ounces daily?

Let’s be honest, sometimes plain water is boring. Let’s be really honest, sometimes drinking soda is more fun. Here’s some tips that help us stay on track with drinking enough water throughout the day and less tempted to reach for the can.

Hydration Hacks

Invest in a flask

..Hydro Flask that is. Having a reusable water bottle, is a great way to encourage yourself to drink more water. Intuitive? Yes. But what better reminder to drink up when the source is nearby! Keep it at your desk, by your bed, or on the kitchen counter. Wherever you go, that cool water will be waiting.

Eat your H20

According to a report by The Food & Nutrition Board, 20% of people’s daily water intake actually comes from food. Though it’s still important to drink plenty of water, quench your thirst with these water rich fruits & vegetables-

 

Things like soups, smoothies, and oatmeal are also great fluid-filled options. Tip: Next time, try throwing in some chia seeds! Since they absorb about 10x their weight in water, they help your body regulate fluid levels and retain electrolytes, both key in the battle against dehydration.

Add Flavor

Fruit-infused water contains the flavor you crave without all that added sugar. Key is to give it time, so throw in your favorite fruit/herbs just before you go to bed to maximize the flavor when you wake up.

Create your own infusion using the following mix-in ideas:

fruit– strawberry, blackberry, cherry, grapefruit, lemon, lime, pineapple

herbs– mint, ginger, lavender, basil

tip: It’s always best to purchase high quality (organic) fruits/veggies. Especially those with the highest concentration of pesticides a.k.a  “Dirty Dozen.” Though if you’d rather use conventional, we recommend peeling the skin & or washing before use. Pair it with an Activity

Start a habit by linking water with some of your most common daily activities. Popping onto Instagram to check those notifications? Take a sip. Constantly checking the clock? Get busy & chug what’s left.

Make it Bubbly

I don’t know why we feel so fancy drinking our bubbly, but we love us some sparkling water! Zero-calories, zero artificial sweeteners and hydrates just as well as regular water. But with a little more zing.

    I first purchased a 21-ounce HydroFlask at wholesale price. It does keep the water cold for a long time, but I didn’t like having to unscrew the lid every time to drink, the rubber gasket makes that a little difficult. I then found and purchased online Costco’s version, ThermoFlask, in both 40-ounce and 24-ounce versions. They come in a pack of two and they were less than the wholesale HydroFlask. They keep the water cold at least as long as long as the HydroFlask and they have a small, easy to unscrew lid on top of the rubber-sealed cap that’s easy to unscrew – you can’t lose it because it remains attached.

    I use the 40-ounce version at work. I fill it with ice and then water in the morning. I keep adding water as necessary during the day, and it stays cold around 36 hours.
