Be A Super Cool Co-Worker

Be A Super Cool Co-Worker

November 14, 2018

You probably spend more time with your coworkers than you will with your spouse, parents, friends, cat.
When you think about it, that’s a ton of time, which makes building positive relationships with the people you work with a priority or maybe for some of us… it’s survival!

Here are some of our best suggestions for being a better co-worker.

  1. Express appreciation and acknowledgment When people feel unappreciated in the workplace, it becomes harder and harder for them to see the benefit in going that extra mile. If there’s no one there to recognize the work they put in, it’s easy to get discouraged. This could be recognition in a company meeting or something as simple as a thoughtful email.
  2. Stay away from office gossip
Ah, the office gossip. Ok, you may be tempted to chime in on one these inevitable gossip sessions, we get it– BUT, it’s best to avoid them at all costs. It’s unprofessional, and it can result in some pretty awkward situations.
Be willing to Share. There’s something you can learn from everyone.
We all have strengths, it’s so dang helpful when someone shares a resource that might benefit the team as a whole.
  3. Open Minded
Keep an open mind to new ideas and company changes. Be aware that cultural differences may make it difficult to understand or deal with your co-workers. Even so, your responsibility is to take a deep breath and find a common ground.
  4. Adjust your attitude
, believe it or not, your attitude can influence your co-workers. The study likened workplace rudeness to the common cold,
Try avoiding grumpy or short replies, try to make pleasant conversation with your peers and stop spreading a bad attitude in the office. Or, if a co-worker is rude to you, make a conscious effort to not let it affect how you treat others.

Having good relationships means you’re likely to be happier at work, and if you’re happy, you’re engaged, and when you’re engaged, you produce better work. You open yourself up to challenges.

We want to hear from you. What has helped you be a better co-worker? How do you keep yourself in a good place at work with your “work family”?
